ABSTRACT:

India is the largest democratic country in the world. Our constitution gives us various rights to ensure social and economic equality. On the similar footing the Right to Information Act confers the right to every citizen of the state to access information under the control of public authorities concerning with public interest. Each and every public authority is legally bound to furnish the requisite information demanded by the applicant in a specific way. There are penal provisions under this act against delinquent public authorities. This act is not only to promote transparency and accountability in administration but also restrain the corruption. RTI Act has been proved to be the most effective legislation to foster justice and equity in the public administration. This act is easily available remedy with the public to penetrate the discriminative process and proceedings initiated by the public authorities ignoring the rule of law, if it is properly utilized and enforced in a systematic manner.
