ABSTRACT:

The scientific approach to understanding behavior is predicated on the assumption of determinism and empiricism and strives to achieve an accurate description and explanation of behavior. Most psychologist hope that better understanding of behavior will have some applicability to practical problems. Scientific research involves formulating a testable hypothesis and gathering appropriate data to assess its validity. The scientific approach is advantageous in that it puts a premium on clarity and has little tolerance for error.
