ABSTRACT:

Indian English fiction constitutes an important partof the world literature today, and women novelists have made significantcontributions to it. In the 1980’s and 90’s, many women writers raised theirvoice against all sort of discriminations against women, whether it be socialor patriarchal or financial or any other. Manju Kapur is one such writer whogives voice to women’s desire for freedom. But freedom is a very delusive termas freedom entails responsibility. When one claims for one’s freedom, one hasto be responsible for the use of the same, and when one claims freedom but doesnot understand it in its full measure and the other side of it, i.e.responsibility, it brings disaster.
