ABSTRACT:

About 85 of India's agricultural land is devoted to the rice (Oryza sativa L.)-wheat (Triticum aestivum L. emend Fiori and Paol) cropping sequence (RWCS), making it the greatest agricultural production system in the world (IGPs). The RWCS have revealed signs of soil nutrient depletion and imbalances, poor fertiliser use efficiency, a general decline in soil organic matter, and stagnant yields as a consequence of decades of continuous cropping under conventional techniques.
