ABSTRACT:

Haryana has rightly called as a milk pail of India. This state has beenthe traditional home of milk animals particularly Murrah buffaloes as alsodescribed earlier. They have been in great demand in not only the country butalso elsewhere too because of their quality and quantity production of milk.The consumption of milk by the local agrarian population is perhaps the highestin the country as they draw their requirements of animal protein and fat frommilk itself. According to the figures furnished by the Animal HusbandryDepartment of the Government of Haryana, the population of milk cows in thestate is 4.2 lakhs and that of milk buffaloes 19.9 lakhs as per 2007census. Onaverage milk yield per cow is 2.9 kg and that of buffalo is about 4.6 kg dailythe annual total product of milk in the state for the year 2010 estimated to be60.1 million tonnes.
